We are stoked to announce that our Ashgrove butcher, Suzanna Roeger has won Silver in Retail Butchery at WorldSkills Australia 2018, whilst competing 2nd to 4th June 2018.

What is WorldSkills Australia?

The National Championships is Australia’s biggest vocational education and excellence competition. Over three days at Skills Show Australia, selected Regional competitors bring their best to the national stage and compete against their industry peers from around the country.

This competition is not for the faint hearted.

Over 3 days, Suze was required to undertake a number of challenges. This included both skills and speed tests, a knife sharpening challenge and mystery challenge.

She was required to display her skills using a trunk of pork, full lamb carcass and forequarter of beef. Competitors were required to break up,  bone out, prepare, slice, roll, value add, pack and creatively display all final products. At the same time they were awarded marks for safety and hygiene, communication, product knowledge and accuracy relating to product numbers and weight.
