Our whole free range chickens come from Elgin Valley Farms, a family-owned Queensland producer with more than 50 years of poultry farming experience.
Raised on farms across South East Queensland, these chickens are RSPCA Approved and have access to outdoor ranges where they can scratch, forage and explore. Elgin Valley Farms combines local farming experience with a focus on animal welfare, quality and tenderness.
A versatile choice for the kitchen, a whole free range chicken is perfect for a traditional Sunday roast, a BBQ or slow cooking. Roast with lemon, garlic and fresh herbs for a simple family favourite, with plenty left over for sandwiches, salads and lunches the next day.

COOKING INSTRUCTIONS
Simple Roast Chicken
Ingredients
1 whole free range chicken
1 tbsp olive oil or softened butter
Salt and freshly ground black pepper
1 lemon, halved (optional)
Fresh thyme sprigs (optional)
Method
Preheat the oven to 200°C (180°C fan-forced).
Pat the chicken dry with paper towel. Rub all over with olive oil or butter, then season generously with salt and pepper.
Place the lemon and thyme inside the cavity, if using.
Place the chicken in a roasting tray and roast for approximately 20 minutes per 500g, plus an extra 20 minutes, or until cooked through.
Check that the thickest part of the thigh reaches 75°C, avoiding the bone. Rest for 10–15 minutes before carving.
Tip: For crispier skin, make sure the chicken is thoroughly dry before adding the oil and seasoning.
